Companion Dog Show
There is always something for everyone in the Companion Dog Show, whether you are drawn to the high quality pedigree classes or bowled over by the dog the judges would most like to take home. And who will win the dog that looks most like its handler? Everyone can enter, with classes for family pets as well as potential Crufts champions. Entries are from 11.00am with judging from 12.30pm.
Ferrets & Ferret Racing
Ferret racing is great entertainment and between races you can get up close and personal with the animals – you can even stroke and handle them, to prove that they really don’t bite! Thanks to the Hants and Berks Ferret Club for making this possible.
Horse Show Rings 1 – 3
The standard of competition is excellent in a wide variety of classes from junior jumping to retrained racehorses, with mountain, moorland and pleasure driving classes to name but a few.
Horticulture Show
The Alresford and District Horticultural Society’s annual Show is always a major attraction with breath-taking displays of cut flowers and floral decorations, and magnificent vegetable and fruit exhibits from local amateur gardeners, all vying to be best in class. But the horticulture tent is about more than just flowers, plants and vegetables – there are also cookery, craft, needlework and photography competitions and exhibitions too – truly something for everyone and not to be missed.
Poultry Exhibition and Egg Show
The chicken and egg. Ever wondered which came first? Visit the poultry tent and all might be revealed! The Hants and Berks Poultry Fanciers will again be showing a wide range of poultry and ducks – some well-known and others less so. To complement the birds, John Breslain will be displaying a bewildering variety of eggs – in all colours, patterns, shapes and sizes.
Livestock Show
No Agricultural Show would be complete without its Livestock Show. Come and see some of the best cattle , sheep, pigs and goats in the region, all groomed to be at their absolute best to impress the judges. Here you will find some of the less well-known breeds and have the chance to enjoy the characters in the goat and pig exhibitions, as well as being able to touch the sheep to feel the differences in their coats. The culmination of the Livestock Show is the Grand Parade of champions in the Main Ring at 15.15pm. Please note – the livestock area will be closed to the public at 3.00pm to allow preparations for the Grand Parade.
Rural Crafts
Over 50 local exhibitors will be displaying their hand-made items, ranging from ceramics and jewellery to watercolour painting, and wood carving, and competing for the Best Exhibit trophy. There is sure to be something for everyone in the craft tent and all exhibitors will be offering items for sale – perhaps a keepsake to remind you of your visit to the Show?
Vintage Machinery
with this impressive display of vintage farm machinery. Enjoy wandering past yesteryear’s tractors, steam engines and other exhibits to see how the ancestors of today’s farmers tended the land and their livestock. And don’t miss the grand procession in the Main Ring.
W.I. Tent
Another perennial favourite, our local Women’s Institutes will be staging a number of displays and offering activities for the children. The WI Country Markets will be selling local home-made produce – cakes, preserves, crafts and plants. And of course it just wouldn’t be the WI if there were not cups of tea and cakes on sale!
There are food, three public bars and ice cream outlets at various points around the showground. In addition a range of local produce is on sale in the Produce Tent and the WI offer tea, coffee and cakes.
Members catering and bar is located adjacent to the Main ring and is provided by Creative Catering, The Holding, Chapel Ln, Easton, Winchester SO21 1HG. Tel: 01962 849396. www.creativecateringandmarquees.co.uk
